Justin Bjur was raised in southern Oregon. He wrote his first play at sixteen that was inspired by transcendental meditation, the same age he enrolled in college. While attending a poetry class he was drawn into writing and performing spoken word; during that time, a mentor who had played in a rock and roll band in the 1970s opened his mind to the world of composition and music production.
In 2017, Bjur co-wrote and produced “I've Got the Gold” for Adam Knight, reaching over 30 million streams worldwide and charting in Germany, France, Switzerland, Turkey, and Poland. Beginning in 2019, he wrote and produced for Honorscouts, whose debut album Magical Realism included the single “Love You Right,” featured in regular rotation on FIP and several other French commercial radio stations.
In 2021, Bjur became director and head of production at Wreckroom NYC, where he directed and produced the Daylight Sessions and Safe and Sound Showcase Series. Artists featured across the series include Mahalia, Abhi the Nomad, and The Backfires.
In 2024, Bjur debuted Sixsun, a solo music project rooted in 1970s-inspired psychedelic rock. His single “Starry Night” features a music video which Bjur wrote, directed, edited, colored, and appeared in as a performer. That same year, Bjur co-founded Liminal Films with director Gabriel Isaac Lakey. He produced, scored, and was colorist for the company's debut short, The Barbarian, starring Windsor Williams and Broadway veteran Vin Shambry. The film premiered at Portland Film Festival 2025 and has since screened at PopCon International 2026. He continues to serve as director of photography, producer, and editor for FAM.
Bjur is currently in development on an original limited series drawn from his family's true story, set against the counterculture landscape of 1970s California and rural Oregon.
He lives in Brooklyn, New York.
